'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the thrilling final moments of Swansea's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter ended with Galbraith picking up a fan's glasses after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range effort from 25 yards, and the defender quickly slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the home end to mark the goal, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an incredible turnaround given the team had trailed 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. During the euphoria, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan shouting out and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory booked a fourth-round match at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for having a go from that far out," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before switching to right flank after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with the England international, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the Manchester squad who praised the way his former team approached the match.

City's Quality

"Physically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they know how to control and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has rapidly done the same in his new home. At his previous team he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at lower division Salford, before he departed Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without much intensity. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for club and country, performing well for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the last several matches, including two matches games against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Starting Out

This marks a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in the Belfast suburb, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his parent, Stuart, also a engine room operator, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they played on an plastic turf and the stadium roof was closed owing to conditions of bitter cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he comments, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I worked out jointly, so that aided our adjustment. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was incredible."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "This turned out quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I realized I wasn't going to make it at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a regular in Swansea's so-called team minibus, a minibus driven by team personnel, the transport team, which ferries players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include a teammate, another squad member, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has got his license. It's enjoyable to interact with the lads but I'm aiming to be the following person to drive independently and driving. Franco is known for his humor; he's constantly causing mischief."

Supporter Connections

While playing for Orient, Galbraith would mix with followers on the Tube after commuting at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
