The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
